Recycling routes for Triphenylphosphine (TPP)

Scope

For the production of vitamins, which belong to the olefins, the Wittig reaction can be used. The Wittig reaction needs a Wittig reagent, which is formed from a phosphonium salt. In turn, this phosphonium salt is made from TPP with an alkyl halide. One byproduct of the used reaction in this course is triphenylphosphine oxide (TPPO). The main task of the project course is to recycle TPPO back into TPP. The students design a plant for a one- or multi-step regeneration of TPPO. The motivation for recycling are economic and sustainability concerns.
